Mill-21 sal-24 ta’ Mejju, id-Dipartiment tal-Malti, id-Dipartiment tal-Lingwi u l-Kulturi tal-Lvant Nofsani u l-Asja, u l-Istitut tal-Lingwistika u t-Teknoloġija tal-Lingwa organizzaw il-ħmistax-il edizzjoni tal-konferenza tal-AIDA, l-Assoċjazzjoni Internazzjonali tad-Djaletti tal-Għarbi, li twaqqfet f’Pariġi fl-1992 bl-għan li tippromwovi d-djaletti Għarab u r-riċerka dwarhom.
Kull sentejn issir konferenza, u din is-sena saret l-Università ta’ Malta, fil-binja tal-Belt Valletta, bis-sehem ta’ aktar minn 170 ruħ, bejn studjużi, studenti u riċerkaturi minn madwar id-dinja. Il-konferenza, li kien fiha 83 preżentazzjoni orali u 11-il poster akkademiku, ittellgħet bil-ħidma tal-Prof. Michael Spagnol, il-Prof. Ray Fabri, Dr Kurstin Gatt, Raffaello Bezzina u Michela Vella.
The 15th AIDA (International Association of Arabic Dialects) Conference was held at the Valletta Campus from the 21 to the 24 of May 2024. It was organised by the Department of Maltese, and the Department of Middle Eastern and Asian Languages and Cultures (Faculty of Arts), along with the Institute of Linguistics and Language Technology. AIDA was founded in 1992 in Paris and is dedicated to advancing the study of Arabic dialects.
The conference, held every two years, attracts scholars from prestigious universities globally, facilitating dialogue, collaboration, and the dissemination of cutting-edge research in the field. This year’s conference featured a robust academic programme with 83 oral presentations, 11 poster presentations and over 170 participants. The members of the local organising committee were Prof. Michael Spagnol, Prof. Ray Fabri, Dr Kurstin Gatt, Mr Raffaello Bezzina and Ms Michela Vella.
