Celebrate togetherness while apart … through DANCE

Looking for something fun to do in your days of self-isolation?

The International Day of Dance 2020, celebrated on 29 April, is fast-approaching, and the University of Malta’s Department of Dance Studies is seeking your contributions to help celebrate … in a unique way.

A few months back, before social distancing and quarantine policies came into effect, the Department of Dance Studies was planning a flashmob, and had thus prepared an instructional video for the UM community to be able to join in.

Due to the change in circumstances, the Department decided to still carry on with this initiative, but with a difference.

Members of the UM community are encouraged to view the video above (reminder: it was shot long before the current situation) and film themselves dancing the sequence as guided by the students.

Not a dancer? Don’t worry!

It’s a simple sequence aimed at all levels of training, plus it allows for a touch of creativity and originality.

These videos are to be sent by email to Ms Lucia Piquero and Mr James Moffett by 25 April, granting consent for the recording to be used by UM for an International Day of Dance Celebration Video.

Suggestion: If a smartphone is being used to record, make sure it is steadily placed on a flat surface. Horizontal filming is preferred.

Stay safe, and keep dancing.
