Lettur Anzjan fid-Dipartiment tal-Malti fl-Università u jgħallem il-lingwa u l-lingwistika. Koordinatur tal-korsijiet tal-Malti Mediku li d-Dipartiment joffri lill-professjonisti li jaħdmu fil-qasam tas-saħħa mal-Gvern kif ukoll ma’ entitajiet privati. Membru fil-Kunsill tal-Akkademja tal-Malti fejn okkupa diversi karigi fosthom ta’ Viċi President u Segretarju. Membru fil-Kunsill Nazzjonali tal-Ilsien Malti fejn kien ukoll il-Kap tal-Kumitat Tekniku tar-Riċerka Lingwistika u l-Ortografija. Kellu sehem attiv fit-tfassil tad-dokument dwar il-varjanti ortografiċi (id-Deċiżjonijiet 1) u fid-dokument dwar il-kitba tal-kliem Ingliż fil-Malti (id-Deċiżjonijiet 2). Għallem għal bosta snin il-pedagoġija tal-Malti fil-Fakultà tal-Edukazzjoni fl-Università u kien involut fil-programm ta’ tagħlim tal-Malti lill-Adulti u fit-tagħlim tal-Malti lill-barranin. Ta bosta korsijiet fit-tħaddim tal-lingwa Maltija lil persuni li jaħdmu f’oqsma differenti bħaċ-ċivil, kumpaniji parastatali, għalliema, ġurnalisti u tradutturi lokali kif ukoll dawk li jaħdmu mal-Istituzzjonijiet Ewropej. Bejn l-2002-2003 ħadem fl-Uffiċċju tal-Pubblikazzjonijiet tal-Unjoni Ewropea fil-Lussemburgu u kien il-Kap tat-taqsima lingwistika tal-Malti li ħadmet fuq il-Gwida tal-Istil u fuq il-Leġiżlazzjoni Sekondarja bil-Malti. L-aktar oqsma tar-riċerka li jinteressawh huma l-ortografija, il-ġens grammatikali, is-sessiżmu fil-lingwa, il-lingwi f’kuntatt u s-soċjolingwistika. Fost il-pubblikazzjonijiet tiegħu nsibu l-monografiji Il-Ġens Grammatikali li Jieħdu fil-Malti n-Nomi ta′ Nisel Ingliż (2003), Grammatical Gender in Maltese (2018) u Is-Sessiżmu fil-Lingwa Maltija (2020)(Editur).
George Farrugia teaches Maltese language and linguistics, and is the coordinator of the Medical Maltese courses organised by the Department of Maltese for healthcare professionals employed with the government and with private entities. He held the posts of Vice-President and Secretary of the Akkademja tal-Malti where he is still an active member of the Council. He is also a member of the National Council for the Maltese Language where he was also the head of the Technical Committee for Language Research and Orthography. He played an active role in the drafting of the document on orthographic variants (Deċiżjonijiet 1) and the document focusing on the orthography of English loan words in Maltese (Deċiżjonijiet 2). For many years he taught pedagogy of Maltese at the Faculty of Education and was involved in the teaching of Maltese programmes to adults and foreigners. He delivered several courses focusing on the correct usage of written and spoken Maltese to civil servants, teachers, journalists, social workers, translators and employees working in different sectors such as parastatal companies and government entities. Between 2002-2003 he worked at the Publications Office of the European Union in Luxembourg and was the head of the Maltese linguistic unit, where he worked mostly on the drafting of a linguistic styleguide and Secondary Legislation. His research focuses mostly on Maltese orthography, grammatical gender, sexism in language, language contact and sociolinguistics. His publications include the monographs Il-Ġens Grammatikali li Jieħdu fil-Malti n-Nomi ta’ Nisel Ingliż (2003), Grammatical Gender in Maltese (2018) and Is-Sessiżmu fil-Lingwa Maltija (2020) (Editor).
